Below is an except for a recent study of the effects of low level laser therapy on the treatment of baldness and hair loss. You can download the complete article here.

The cellular effects of LLLT are being employed in the use of low level laser or light therapy for the treatment of baldness and stimulation of hair growth.

“Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) for hair loss treatment uses the well‐known principal of Photobiostimulation. Photobiostimulation is the biochemical, non‐thermal effect that results from exposure of living tissue to various dosages of energy at varying wavelengths emitted from low level lasers. A Three‐Phased Western IRG approved study released at the ISHRS (International Society for Hair Restoration Surgeons) in Amsterdam, Netherlands in June 2009 by Dr. Grant F. Koher called Effect of Laser Biostimulation In The Treatment of Female Pattern Hair Loss showed after 52 treatments (26 weeks) 100% of the subjects presenting an upward historical linear trend of hair growth from the beginning to the end of the treatments, 97% of the subjects presented an increased hair count of ≥20%, 77% of the subjects presenting a hair count increase of ≥51%.

Various studies, including a double blind study submitted to the FDA, have shown a number of mechanisms on how Photo biostimulation effects hair growth. Doctor Michael R. Hamblin, Ph.D., a Principal Investigator at the Wellman Center for Photo Medicine and an Associate Massachusetts General Hospital Professor of Dermatology at the Harvard School of Medicine, recently presented new and updated information on the mechanism of action for “laser biostimulation” at the ISHRS 17t h Annual Scientific Meeting. He states, “Several laboratories, including ours, have reported the generation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the mitochondria of cells during low‐level light therapy (LLLT) and the release of nitric oxide from intracellular binding proteins including cytochrome c oxidase.

Several redox‐sensitive transcription factors are known, such as NF‐kB and AP1, that are able to initiate transcription of genes involved in protective responses to oxidative stress.

The cellular effects of LLLT are being employed in the use of low level laser or light therapy for the treatment of baldness and stimulation of hair growth. Various devices like laser combs and hairdryer‐type hoods are used to deliver red laser light to the scalp and encourage new hair growth in patients with thinning hair. Reduction of cell death in the hair follicle, the increase in the number of follicles in the Anagen phase, and the increase in hair pigmentation, has all been observed.”

Austin, TX – January 9, 2012: ManeGain is now offering its cutting edge, natural hair regrowth and restoration therapy in East Austin at Ricky Hodge Salon and continues to grow its cadre of premiere salons offering its HALO Therapy. HALO is a high-technology, FDA-approved Therapy comprised of three non-invasive light energies that, when delivered simultaneously, stimulates the hair follicle cells, enhances blood flow, and minimizes the causes of gender pattern baldness, naturally reversing thinning hair and hair loss. Essentially, it grows new hair.

ManeGain’s CEO, Barry Thornton, explains, “The ManeGain HALO Therapy actually reverses the “root” causes of hair loss by bathing the scalp with naturally occurring energies and acts as sort of time machine to reverse normal age-related hair loss between 5 to 20 years in most people.”

When asked why Ricky Hodge is now offering the ManeGain Therapy, Founder Mr. Hodge commented, “I believe in offering people a one of kind of experience when it comes to style and coloring hair. I have noticed over the years that many of my best clients are starting to have thinning hair, and as such this really affects how the feel about themselves. Until now, we really did not have an effective way to deal with that. With ManeGain, we are able to explore a new ground-breaking technology that can actually work to combat hair loss and thinning through an all-natural, non-invasive, chemical-free sessions. We are excited to be the only salon chosen to offer this Therapy in East Austin.”

Jeffrey Fry, ManeGain Marketing Chief added, “Ricky (Hodge) is renowned for his ability to transform anyone into a natural looking blonde. This is a one of kind talent and ManeGain is all about offering a one of a kind Therapy to regrow and strengthen people’s hair, while making them feel more confident.” Mr. Fry went on to say, “Ricky Hodge Salon is a great choice because they understand offering people our HALO Therapy not only can reverse hair loss, but give clients more abundant, stronger, thicker, richer hair. Just like Ricky’s coloring, it is a one-of-a-kind experience!”

It is exciting and exhilarating, the moment of exuberance when the world changes and you know it is now inevitable, no more doubt, you are on the way to where you want to be. You are regrowing new hair.

We see this happening in people all the time, 8 to 12 weeks after they take action and start a change in their life. That change is restoration of their confidence when getting their hair back; it is what ManeGain does to people.

Today a rich fog came in over the lake and I reflected on how many times I have had to navigate through fog, both on my boat and in my life.

In both cases, I have found that concentration is the key to getting though; concentration of will and focus, clarity of thought, being the maximum me when needed.

But when I can’t concentrate, when nagging thoughts or fears make noise inside my head, I am at the mercy of the currents both of liquid and of life. We all have this problem. It is the profound fear, the deep intangible, unrealized knowledge that the worst will happen; those thoughts are the ones that can stop your life in its tracks.

Deepest of all of these it the profound knowledge that you are changing and everyone can see it, that you are no longer seen for what you know you still are. When the day arrives that you cannot cover it up anymore, your life as it was ends.

This happens when you lose your hair – but you do not have to be a victim, you can get it back along with your life. Without the distraction of the thoughts of loss you can find your way through that fog, that’s what ManeGain is for.

We tend to forget that every one of our service providers, call them stylists, hairdressers, or aestheticians, is really a small and probably bootstrapped business. Each of these folks paid money and went to school for the accreditation required to do this work legally. They then found a shop where, to grow you need to get your own customers.

Each has all the classic elements of a business:

They market themselves

The sell themselves

They deliver service/product

They collect payment for that service/product.

They make a profit and grow

Each of these folks has a CRM (Customer Relations Management) process. Each is a Brand. Each builds the value in that Brand. Customers express brand-loyalty, they follow a service provider from shop-to-shop in many cases.

The problem is that Service Provider doesn’t know it. Oh, they know it, they can mouth the words; but they don’t feel it, they don’t live it, they don’t believe it, they don’t drive their brands with passion, design, and intent.

The essence of that last thought is that this is where we can make a difference in all these people’s lives. This is our lever into their souls (to put it melodramatically). This is how we can transform them. This is how we get them to carry our Brand forward.

How do we do this?

We carry a message of how to improve their branding. We educate in this area that no one teaches about. We provide little snippets every time we ‘touch’ them, building the same story of perfecting their theater and messaging, their skills and use of marketing in the Experience Economy, their Brand

–Francois Rabelais – 1493-1553, French Clergyman

Almost 500 years and this analogy is still clear. The greatest impact we can have on anyone occurs at the first encounter. That single instant of first visual contact reaches cleanly and unobstructed deep down in to our most profound and primitive memories and feelings. It is what you then remember and judge from. It is a survival reaction; it is the first order of protection.

What is the power of a full head of healthy hair at that instant? No matter what happens it is over and cannot be repeated, it never looks back, time marches on, you just took the one-way trip that went from zero-to-one. How do you think you did? Could you do better with more abundant, lusher, and healthier hair?

 —Shana Alexander

There is no question that we use our self-image to project ourselves to the outside world, for who are we but what we appear to be? The healthy soul is what it appears to be; it need be not a thing more or less.

What we project is a vision; the first and easiest thing we see of anyone else, or them of us, is hair. We look for the hair instinctively, it is a drive so profound that that is it lodged in our deepest inner brain, it is a survival action of the earliest order. In our far distant past what we saw told us of the health, hygiene, temperament, and success of the person we viewed. It told us about our survival.

Today, still wrapped in a veiled of distant instincts, our modern outer brain takes over after the urge to look is controlled, and we look for the same things but using bigger words.

Nothing entices the senses as does my hair.

—John Dryden 17th Century English Poet

How can there be any doubt that you hair is the ‘bait of love’. Love is more than just an intimate expression; it is joy and understanding from afar. And love done afar is done with eyes, and yes, you hair is that message carrier from afar that build the amazing and wonderful feelings of love as you near your loved.
