The ManeGain Station Model 1340 is powered by a combination of three technologies whose collective effect on cellular tissues is to increase vitality and growth of the hair follicle and surrounding tissue. The contraindications for each technology are noted below.
Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT, also known as photobiomodulation, cold laser therapy and laser biostimulation) ManeGain – Cool LaserPulse™ is a medical technique in which exposure to low-level laser light is used to stimulate cellular functions with the intent of beneficial clinical effects.
Contraindications – Low Level Laser Therapy has no known side effects.
Deep Penetrating Light Therapy (also known as DPLT, phototherapy) ManeGain – SpectraPulse™ consists of exposure to specific wavelengths of light using lasers or light-emitting diodes. Deep penetrating light therapy utilizes light-emitting diodes to penetrate the scalp at four different levels. This stimulates and rejuvenates the entire follicle, making it conducive to receiving a new shaft of hair.
Contraindications – There are few absolute contraindications to light therapy, although there are some circumstances in which caution is required.
These include when a patient has a condition that might render his or her eyes more vulnerable to phototoxicity, has a tendency toward mania, has a photosensitive skin condition, or is taking a photosensitizing herb (such as St John’s wort) or medication. Patients with Porphyria should avoid most forms of light therapy. Patients on certain drugs like methotrexate or chloroquine should use caution with light therapy, as there is a chance that these drugs could cause porphyria.
Photosensitive epilepsy (PSE) is a form of epilepsy in which seizures are triggered by visual stimuli that form patterns in time or space, such as flashing lights, bold, regular patterns, or regular moving patterns. Television has traditionally been the most common source of seizures in PSE. ManeGain pulses light at the same rate as television. lt is possible that these pulses could stimulate Photosensitive Epilepsy or mild vertigo.
Of all persons who have been diagnosed as epileptic, between three and five percent are known to be of the photosensitive type (approximately two people per 10,000 of the general population). Often persons with PSE have no history of seizures outside of those triggered by visual stimuli. Females are more commonly affected than males, and there is distinct genetic correlation. Symptoms usually first appear during childhood or adolescence, with a peak at the beginning of puberty, and few people are diagnosed with PSE after the age of 20.
Pulsed Magnetic Therapy (also known as PMT) ManeGain – Dyna-Pulse™ utilizes low frequency magnetic therapy to induce cell growth and improved blood circulation. The mechanics of this process are centered around the ionic interactions of Calcium in the blood and the cells which the blood services for improved nutrition and waste removal.
Contraindications – There are no known side effects of PMT. Testing with pacemakers and other embedded electrical devices have showed no interactions.
Summary – The technologies employed in the ManeGain Station Model 1340 have shown no additional contraindications to the ones noted for each respective technology. Other than the issue of potential Photosensitive Epilepsy, the ManeGain Hair Rejuvenation Therapy has no discernible reactions in humans, and while being beneficial for cellular respiration, hair follicle stimulation and rejuvenation, cell growth promotion and blood circulation, has no effect on pregnancy, pacemakers, cancer, lesions or other skin or internal organs issues.
